Communities of Practice are loosely organized but interactive groups of higher education professionals who are interested in fairly narrowly defined topics. The communities provide virtual and active advice and support to their members in several ways, through:
- Synchronous chats on announced topics
- Asynchronous threaded conversations or blogs on specified topics or issues
- Member-posted resources and tools
- E-mail announcements and conversations
Communities of Practice are self-generated and self-sustaining. Any interested higher education professional can propose a topic that s/he wishes to moderate (to propose a topic, click here), and membership in the community is open to any higher education professional who wishes to subscribe. While the activities of the Communities of Practice will be coordinated generally by the Director of ICSSIA, individual moderators manage their communities in ways that serve the community best.
